The Beginning of Something Beautiful-The why

Welcome to the story of why I teach yoga.

When I was a kid, a family member had surgery on their spine which greatly affected their comfort and mobility. They learned to live with it and accept it for what it was. I, on the other hand, did not. It made me uncomfortable to see their discomfort no matter how much they tried to hide it. I watched this affect their life without realizing I wanted to help.

In high school, I came across yoga. It quickly turned into something I loved. This yoga practice helped me feel strong, connected to my body, and greater peace of mind. I loved the connection to mind and body that was only getting stronger. Fast-forward to my late twenties, I started to encourage my family member to try yoga classes. I loved yoga. I felt the benefits and thought, why wouldn't they? Their response was a firm, "No." They had so many excuses and reasons why it wouldn't work for them.

From time to time, I checked in with them on the idea of giving yoga a try. One day they asked me a question that, little did I know, would change my life.

"Will you teach me yoga?"

I took a moment and thought about it and pretty quickly realized my answer was "YES!" Keep in mind, I'd done yoga for years but had no formal training. I let go of my fear and dove in.

It was a special day for us both. We found a little bit of the magic together. I loved connecting while sharing something I love. They felt more connected to their body they had in years. They felt better, and also loved the quality time we got to share. At the end of our first session, they said they avidly wanted to continue practicing yoga with me.

With this realization, I knew I wanted to teach.

This moment gave me such excitement!!! I couldn’t contain myself- I could feel this deep vibrational stir. Who knew this love for yoga and created an unconscious desire to empower others. I am forever grateful for this lesson in life and the power and magic I found in yoga.

Over the years of teaching yoga, I enjoy fostering this connection with my family. My family is an integral part of learning to teach. I've shared many benefits of yoga, including reducing high blood pressure. I see them move with a greater sense of body awareness and comfort. I am very happy for having forged this path to help, connect, and share this gift with others.
